OUR STORY
In 1961, Roy Henn and his sons set out to service the plastics industry by establishing EDRO as a premium custom mold base manufacturer. It was not long before they began to learn the finer points of building, what many customers refer to as, the best custom mold bases available in the market.
In just a few short years, the name EDRO became synonymous with top quality mold bases in California. Soon, the “EDRO family” grew to include an impressive team of skilled craftsmen and knowledgeable technicians that pride themselves on producing a first rate job. This reputation soon propelled EDRO into the upper ranks of nationally recognized plastics tooling specialists.
Among the first to install CNC equipment and multiple pallet cell systems, EDRO continues to lead the industry by pioneering the latest in emerging technology.
After years of building premium mold bases, EDRO recognized the need for improved mold steels.
In 1985, EDRO Specialty Steels was established with one prevailing goal, to develop, manufacture and distribute new and improved steels engineered for plastics tooling. Assembling a team of industry professionals and metallurgical experts, EDRO developed and introduced RoyAlloy® a low-carbon martensitic free-machining stainless steel for improved plastics mold base tooling in 1997.
With RoyAlloy’s global expansion came more opportunities leading EDRO to join the voestalpine Group in 2007. As part of voestalpine, EDRO has continued to expand its’ product and value-added service portfolio, becoming the exclusive distributor for Böhler tool steels in the USA, as well as adding a list of non-ferrous products to its’ portfolio including MoldMAX® copper alloys and QC-10® aluminum.
EDRO’s growth in tooling materials has been complimented by an expanded service offering, including establishing an eifeler PVD Coatings facility and an aerospace precision manufacturing division in its West Coast facility.
Today, EDRO is positioned to be your one stop shop for tooling solutions – special materials, machining services, custom mold bases, PVD coatings, and additive manufacturing solutions.
